Religious beliefs are a powerful thing. And as yothsothgoth says, the more similar two people's beliefs systems
are the easier their relationship will be. I think that when two different
belief systems come into play, like this one, unless both people have a very light hold on their beliefs, it won't work
out. Two radically different belief systems trying to hold out for their own way
of thinking will never end well unless someone concedes in the
relationship.
I have some atheist friends and religious friends, and then there's me who's
stuck somewhere in the middle of all their beliefs (lot's off different
religion's aspects appeal to me, but I don't buy into any one). The subject of
religion pops up and all hell can break loose real easily. So, if both people
have strong beliefs on either side of the fence than that will cause problems
for each person no matter what. Because all of us as human beings don't want to
be told that how we believe is the "wrong" way. Which is essentially
what is the underlying theme when anyone is worried that their beliefs won't
jive with someone else's. I'd say that if you are an adamant Christian, that her
beliefs will always be a thorn in your side no matter how much you try to
convince yourself otherwise. And as others here have said, she may feel like
she's trying to be converted farther down the lines whenever discussions of
religion pop up. I think that for your own sanity you should look
elsewhere.
As a side note: I'd highly recommend reading George Burn's autobiography
"In His Own Words". His religious beliefs were Jewish and his wife was
a devote Catholic. He has whole sections which touch upon this subject and it's
an interesting read.
I only really convert my Windows Media Player files into MP3's. I use a program
called "Switch." It's quite simple and easy to use. If you do a Google
search for convert windows media file to
mp3 it will bring up a page called "Ask Dave" There's a link
there, and Dave's page has a nice tutorial.
I lover the Suikoden series. II and V are my all time favorites in the series.
III isn't bad story wise, but the pacing was just too slow which lost it points
with me. HOWEVER, the game makes for a much better manga. Read it if you haven't
already. Also, don't let IV turn you off the series entirely, just skip it -
that's what I did. V returns with a kick-ass story.
And, while the main characters in all the games aren't "talkative" I'm
always amused and interested to see how the game designers make it so you
understand that you were the one who
said XXX thing. lol. When
voices were included starting with the fourth game I was surprised how well
developers were able to keep up that trick of a silent hero. Kudos to
them.
All in all, I love the series and getting all 108 stars...it reminds me of item
collecting. But most of the 108 add something to the storyline at some point.
Even if it is just a one-liner they tell you at your castle.
Thanks so much for the advice from everyone who's posted so far. There are some
new ideas there for me. Flyindreams, I seriously would have never thought about
the alumni angle of things. That is definitely something to check out.
If anyone else wants to offer advice - PLEASE
DO! I'm always open to new ideas.
So I grew up in a very small town where everyone knew everyone else. And in
college I met people through classes. Now I've graduated college and moved to a
bigger city where I don't know
anyone. I have no idea how or where to meet people besides the bars and
dance clubs (both of which I am not fond
of). Because these are the "in" places to meet people I'm at a loss as
to where else to look. There's gotta be something else out there; like a book
club or something.
I just want to find some friends. So I
don't feel so lonely. Anyway, I was hoping some of the older members of MT could
help me think of ways to meet people because I am not very savvy when it comes
to that. And I'm not having much luck on my own. Kinda sad, but oh so true. And
hopefully I don't wreak of desperation...that is definitely not my intent with
this.
The wildfires in CA are producing some pretty jaw dropping images. Some I've
seen bear a striking resemblance to lava flows...that's a heck of a lot of fire.
I saw on the news a guy stayed and fought the fire with his garden hose! He
lived through it and I think he even saved his house. But, geez man! That was
risky. It's weird how the fires are leaving some houses in tact while
their neighbors are burnt to the ground. It's almost like tornado damage (kind
of).
I wish everybody's friends and family's safety as the fires rage on.
Welcome! OMG...I was just going to say, "New anime? Well you should check
out Ouran Host Club." But you beat me to it! Awesome show, I'm currently
working my way through it.
Actually a really great way I've found new anime is by looking through the
wallpaper section and grabbing walls that catch my eye that are featuring anime
I don't even know about. That's how I found Ouran High School Host Club after
all.
Great to have you here! Enjoy your stay! *passes Aerenalle a cookie*
I watched Trigun from beginning to end when I first got the boxset. I can't
remember if I slept or not anywhere during the show...but I don't' think I did.
So that's 26 episodes at approximately 1/2 hour a piece...That'd be 13 hours.
O_o Can you say, "Googly-eyed by the end."
I've seen plenty of siblings talking about each other on MT when they submit
items or post in the forums. So you should be fine as far as I know - though I'm
no mod or anything. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I'll participate in making a banner/avatar as well. I've still got limited
dial-up internet connection, so...*cough* Here's hoping that my sporadic MT site
visiting will allow me to see when the contest starts and ends. lol.
Question: The official size of the
banner/avatar will be posted with the rules of the contest, right? Otherwise
I'll have to go on a MT hunt for the site rules.
BIG THANK YOU goes out to the organizers, since I'm limited to what I can do.
*hugs (and for those that enjoy their personal space) and ice cream*
Howard the Duck <= That is the biggest
bomb of a movie that ever blew. I'm not even gonna elaborate. You'll turn the
movie off within the first 10 minutes. I guarantee it.
Oh dear lord...I find myself relating things to anime as a "common"
occurrence, when in actuality...things aren't.
For example: I am always baffled when someone doesn't understand the anime-esque
"falling over from shock." I mean, come on, we all know it's emotional
bearing, right? ...then I remember that anime is a niche market and I'm the one who's lost it according to the
"common" man.
I don't actually do any physical
anime-style things, but my thinking has been affected, that's for sure. I'm
amazed by how much lingo/emotional actions I've picked up and use in relevance
to my own life. Even online - Really now, all websites need to adopt the smiley. It's so useful! ...then I remember that it's normally just an anime
thing and resign myself once again. *sigh* When's the rest of the world going to
catch on, I ask you? When!? lol
Quote by MapleRoseI think the problem
lies with the vague definition of abstract art given in the MT policy. That
gallery has now become like a misc gallery for random stuff that doesn't fit
into other categories T__T , which is unfortunate, because there are some nice
pieces in there. Or alternatively, keep the gallery, but rethink the definition
and make it much more specific.
I think MapleRose is onto something. I also don't think that it should be an
issue as to how many pages the abstract art section is either - if people are
using it and their artwork fits the category, then it's working. I personally
think that finding abstract artwork in the doujinshi category would make it
really hard to find because when I think doujinshi I think of
anime-people-related artwork, but maybe that's just me. I'd never think to look in this category to find CG renders and the like
anyway, so that's my two cents worth.
Hrm...I would say that it's possible that a moderator came across the walls
(maybe they were just wandering through the site recently) and thought that
these particular walls were of low quality. I know that they've stepped up their
requirements for acceptable walls.
I think the best thing to do is to contact a moderator from that gallery and ask
them via PM or guestbook post - make sure to be polite and you should have no
problem find a reason as to why at the very least. Good
luck.
Since my time is so limited I can only allow myself to watch a few shows at a
time. And the triumphant winner, for right now, is Kekkaishi. There's just something about a young man in love who has
no idea that he is in love (not to mention his jealousy when his older brother
shows up) that's so entertaining. Watching Yoshimori as he simultaneously
protects Tokine and manages to push her away all in one blow just makes for a
great show, and it all comes with funky dunky spirit magic and ghost dogs to
boot.
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile.
For the Playstation. Awesome game! *End of shameless plug*
No really, the game is super good, and there is a Klonoa 2 for the PS2 which is
just as sweet. The series as a whole looks kind of kiddy, but it's a whole bunch
of platformer goodness. I also really liked the made-up language the characters
speak, and the ending nearly made me cry. It still does...and I'm near 30yr.
I personally think that girl's look like they've been vacuum sealed into their
clothes - I mean, come on. Do I really need to see every little curve of your
body? Jeez, leave something to imagination will ya? Girls also wear jeans that
ride way too low, so every time they bend over or sit down I get to see their
plumber's crack behind. There aren't enough plumbers in the world to offset this
spectacle of the girl version! *shivers* As for guys, they're the exact
opposite. Their clothes are hanging off them - they do have a body in there,
right? I don't get why every one of them must show me their boxers either. And
the pants are so low that the crotch is down to their knees - and that's with a belt! I've seen guys who
couldn't run like normal for the sheer fact that their pants were too
low.
I think the best thing to do would be to merge the two fashion
"trends" and make a coherent, wearable outfit. That's what I think.
I think Conan is kind of like the comic strip Calvin & Hobbes. If the
characters grew up there'd be a change in the dynamics - so it may (and probably
would) loose it's appeal. And there's only so much you can do when you're set to
a strict timeline in a show - that's why Conan's age doesn't mesh with how many
summer vactions he's had persay.
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
If anoyone has played, viewed, or have even heard about these two games they are
definitely moving art. Gorgeous, simply gorgeous.
If there are different styles (sprites, 3D environment, cell shading, etc.) of
games then they have to be called something. Different artistic styles
definitely fits video games. I think a lot of people just have an issue calling
something that "wastes time" art.
I would also like to say to these critics: What else do you think contributed to
the creation of the word eye-candy? I've
never heard a great oil painting or sculpture be referred to as eye-candy
before, that's for sure.

I keep a list of Anime that I own (that way I don't duplicate anything). I just remember if I liked the show or not, so no ranking records for me.
Best. Storyline. Ever.
